5th Annual Dive Gathering

(formerly Hank's Dive Gathering)

August 29th & 30th, 2009, Gilboa & Portage Quarries, Findlay, Ohio

It’s been on your mind for some time now − pulling on your heavy rubber dive gear and slipping under the water's surface with like-minded dive buds. Whether you are a new recruit or a seasoned veteran, now is the time to consider signing on for the 2009 Dive Gathering. Join Superlite Diver, Emitca, and a unique team of rubber divers to explore the depths of Gilboa and Portage Quarries.

Gilboa Quarry offers diving down to 65 feet in the shallow side of the quarry, or depths down to 120 feet with a filed dive plan. All divers must register with the quarry operators and must show proof of SCUBA certification. Equipment rental and tank fills are available but it should be noted that Gilboa Quarry does not accept “plastic” of any kind.  Bring cash.  The quarry is located just west of Findlay, Ohio and Interstate I-75. For further information and admission fees, visit Gilboa Quarry.

Portage Quarry with a maximum depth of 60 feet has been built through the years with the diver in mind so that divers can enter the quarry at any point. Three-quarters of the quarry can be entered on a stone ledge in knee deep water. Equipment rental and tank fills are available. The quarry is located 10 miles north of Findlay, Ohio just west of Interstate I-75. Further information and fees can be viewed at Portage Quarry.

Accommodations for the event can be made through the Rodeway Inn of Findlay, Ohio, located just off I-75. Best rates can be attained by simply mentioning that you are a diver. For further information, visit Rodeway Inn.

Registration for this event is limited so you should make contact as early as possible.  Simply e-mail Superlite Diver / Emitca through RodeoScuba.  This year’s final registration date is August 8th.

This fifth annual Dive Gathering offers the chance to bring and dive your favorite gear, meet new dive buddies or refresh old acquaintances, and experience the fellowship of like-minded dive enthusiasts. The “Gathering” also offers the chance to dive two very unique Ohio quarries as Saturday, August 29th diving will take place at Gilboa Quarry and Sunday, August 30th diving is to be at Portage Quarry. It should be remembered that this event is for “like-minded rubber dive enthusiasts only”, so be prepared to bring and dive your own equipment and have your proof of certification available.
